PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 7 Princeton Tigers are set to host two top-10 nationally ranked opponents in No. 4 Texas Longhorns and No. 9 Yale Bulldogs at Lake Carnegie on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers had a successful outing at the Ivy League Invitational two weeks ago as the undefeated varsity eight moved to 7-0 on the season and retained both the Class of 1984 Plaque and the 1975 Cup against a quartet of Ivy League opponents, while the full Tiger squad went a combined 21-1.
Princeton opened the day with the Class of 1984 Plaque Regatta, which is the only traditional Ivy League race that follows a team point format. Harvard-Radcliffe joined the field of Princeton, Penn and Dartmouth that competed for the Plaque, which the Tigers won by topping its two series rivals in the 1V, 2V and V4A races. Princeton did get a challenge from Harvard in both the top eight races; the Tigers topped the Crimson by 3.7 seconds in the 1V event, while the Crimson won the 2V race by 6.2 seconds. Those two races left fans anticipating the afternoon rematch, where those two would join Cornell in the annual Class of 1975 Cup regatta.
The women's open rowing squad is 33-11 all-time vs. Yale and has secured the last nine Eisenburg Cups. Last year, Princeton's 1V held a four-second advantage over Yale, placing second to Iowa. The Tigers have never faced the Longhorns during the regular season.
Following this weekend, the Tigers host Columbia, Rutgers and Wisconsin for the Hewitt and Dauphiny Cup at Lake Carnegie next Saturday (Apr. 27).
