Clarkson Takes Battle of National Top-10 Teams

A pair of Elizabeth Giguere goals lifted sixth-ranked Clarkson to a 2-1 win over fifth-ranked Princeton Saturday afternoon in Potsdam, N.Y., as the second-to-last weekend of the regular season wrapped up.
Saturday's play clinched ECAC semis and finals hosting rights for Cornell, provided the Big Red advance through the first round, and it solidified the eight-team playoff field with seeding order to be determined next weekend. Cornell, Princeton, Harvard, Clarkson, Yale, Quinnipiac, Colgate and St. Lawrence will compete for the ECAC championship when the playoffs get underway Feb. 28. Princeton will be among the teams hosting, and playoff tickets are available here.
Clarkson had the game's first two goals, with Giguere cashing in on a power-play chance with less than five minutes to go in the opening period and doubling the lead at even strength just before the midway point of the second period.
Annie Kuehl answered less than two minutes after Giguere's second goal when fellow rookie Daniella Calabrese disrupted a Clarkson pass just before the red line and sent the puck toward Kuehl on the wing to Clarkson goalie Marie-Pier Coulombe's left. Kuehl rocketed a shot from near the faceoff dot to put the Tigers on the board, but the equalizer never came for Princeton as Coulombe and the Golden Knights held on.
Princeton will host Brown and Yale next weekend at Baker Rink as the regular season comes to a close.
