Men's Cross Country Finishes 7th At Pre-Nationals

Princeton put forth a strong showing at Pre-Nationals in Tallahassee on Friday, placing five Tigers in the top 70 runners to claim seventh places overall as a team.
The Tigers scored 271 points, 10 clear of No. 20 Florida State which finished in eighth place on its home course. The meet was littered with Top-30 teams in the most recent USTFCCCA National Rankings. Finishing first in the team race was No. 1 Northern Arizona, with No. 7 Colorado second and No. 8 Arkansas third. All six teams that finished ahead of the Tigers were inside the national Top-30. On the other hand, Princeton's seventh-place result was a higher finish than six teams ranked inside the Top-30 this week -- No. 22 Florida State (eighth), No. 22 Alabama (ninth), No 28 Ole Miss (11th), No. 17 Wake Forest (15th), No. 25 Weber State (16th) and No. 30 Charlotte (17th) all were behind Princeton in the team standings.
"I am really proud of the group for their effort and results today," said head coach Jason Vigilante. "This was a stout lineup of opponents and we took great steps forward in rising to the challenges presented this time of year. We're trending in the right direction headed into Heps in two weeks."
2020 Olympian Ed Trippas was top finisher for Princeton, claiming 39th in a time of 23:41.7. Just behind Trippas was Kevin Berry who was 41st in a time of 23:43.7. Anthony Monte was the third-highest Tiger in the individual results, taking 58th in 23:55.3, while Jakob Kintzele was 63rd (23:57.20 and Josh Zelek was 70th (24:01.6).
Also competing in the Garnett for Princeton on Friday were Matt Grossman (113th; 24:19.3), Connor Nisbet (117th; 24:20.9), and Matt Farrell (136th; 24:30.9). In the Open race, Nicholas Bendsten was 12th (24:29.7), Jarrett Kirk was 18th (24:42.0) and Nate Tavakolian was 97th (26:00.9.
Princeton will send another group of runners out on October 16 for the Princeton Invitational. The men's race starts at 9:45 a.m. with the women's race to follow at approximately 10:30 a.m. the first 100 children in attendance will receive free Princeton capes!
