Men's Cross Country Preps For Heps At Home Saturday
October 28, 2021 | Men's Cross Country
Timing/Results
Princeton's men's cross country team will race in a familiar setting on Saturday, hosting the Ivy League's Heptagonal Championships at West Windsor Field. The men's race is scheduled for noon, following the women's race which is set for 11 a.m.
The Tigers have won 20 Heps championships and own 21 total Ivy League men's cross county titles -- each the most among Ivy programs. Princeton's first Heps crown came in 1975, and its most recent came in 2018. On nine occassions, including the 2018-19 seasons, a men's cross country Heps title was the beginning of a Triple Crown for Princeton.
Princeton will be looking for its fifth Heps title on its home course, having won at West Windsor in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2018.
The Tigers enter the weekend ranked No. 18 in the country and are ranked No. 2 in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the most recent USTFCCCA Regional Rankings, with Penn coming in at No. 5 in the Mid-Atlantic. Harvard is ranked No. 25 overall in the country, and sits at No. 1 in the Northeast Region.
Princeton's rise to No. 18 came after a strong showing at the Pre-Nationals Meet at Florida State on October 15. The Tigers had five of the top 70 finishers at the meet, taking seventh place overall as a team which was a better result that six teams who entered the meet ranked inside the Top-30.
Matt Grossman (5th) and Ed Trippas (13th) return from the Princeton group which was victorious in 2018 at West Windsor. Grossman would also score for the Tigers in 2019, taking 21st place. Other returners for Princeton with Heps scoring experience include Camren Fischer (5th in 2019) and Connor Nisbet (6th in 2019).
