Tigers Settle for Weekend Split as Cornell Takes Lynah Return, 2-0
November 20, 2021 | Women's Ice Hockey
The last time the Princeton women's hockey team was in Lynah Rink in Ithaca, it left with a come-from-behind win and an ECAC Hockey tournament title.
In Princeton's first meeting with Cornell since that day more than a year and a half ago, Princeton fell behind early again, and despite outshooting Cornell by a wide margin, the Big Red put a lid on the comeback and held on for a 2-0 win.
Just as in the 2020 ECAC tournament final, Princeton was down a pair after a period. Cornell got a power-play goal from Sam Burke just 57 seconds in and added an even-strength goal from Gillis Frechette with 30 seconds before the ice cut.
That was it for the Big Red, and despite Princeton outshooting Cornell 64-34 overall and 37-24 on net, nothing got past Big Red netminder Lindsay Browning, who made all 37 saves.
The weekend began with a 1-1 tie at No. 5 Colgate, and ninth-ranked Princeton could get two more chances against another top-five team next weekend after a new round of polls are released earlier in the week, as Northeastern, currently ranked fourth, will head to Baker for two on Friday and Saturday.
