Men's Ice Hockey Edged By RIT, 5-4
November 26, 2021 | Men's Ice Hockey
There was no post-Thanksgiving sleepiness on offense between Princeton and RIT at Hobey Baker Rink, but it was the visiting RIT squad who found one extra helping of goals in a 5-4 win.
Â
Ethan Pearson made 35 saves in his first collegiate start for Princeton, conceding only one 5-on-5 goal in a penalty-filled affair.
Â
RIT was 3-for-7 on the power play, adding a 4-on-4 goal. Princeton was 1-for-4 on the man advantage.
Â
10 different skaters had at least one point for Princeton, led by Matt Kellenberger (two goals), and Noah de la Durantaye (two assists).
Â
Each team scored once in the first period, RIT netting the first goal and Princeton answering late.
Â
Jake Hamacher scored the first goal, finding himself alone at the far post after a Princeton turnover 9:15 into the game.
Â
Matt Kellenberger countered for the Tigers just before intermission, sending a wrister through traffic with 3:26 left in the first period. Joe Berg and Alex Konovalov worked a cycle on the half wall for the Tigers to find space for Kellenberger, Berg's assist the first point of his career.
Â
Matt Kellenberger's goal 0:18 into the second period was the only even strength goal of the middle period. He finished a 3-on-2 break for Princeton, tapping in his second of the game off assists from Christian O'Neill and Ian Murphy.
Â
Princeton scored a PPG of its own 11:25 into the second period. After Liam Gorman worked a loose puck back to Noah de la Durantaye, he fed it over to Corey Andonovski who wired home a slapper off a one-timer.
Â
In the third, Princeton put together sustained pressure with the Seitz-Robbins-Evans line, and eventually the puck worked back to Pito Walton who stepped into a blast from the point which tied the game, 4-4.
The two teams reconvene on Saturday night at Hobey Baker Rink, Puck drops at 7 p.m. on "Teddy Bear Toss Night" presented by JAG-ONE Physical Therapy.
