No. 4 Northeastern Holds off No. 10 Princeton, 3-1
November 27, 2021 | Women's Ice Hockey
Maggie Connors scored her 99th career point to pull Princeton even in the second period, but a Northeastern go-ahead goal followed quickly and the Huskies added another in the third to win 3-1 and win the two-game weekend series.
Princeton outshot Northeastern 76-52 overall and 42-31 on goal on the night, marking the first time on Northeastern's season that an opponent outshot the Huskies. Wisconsin, which defeated Northeastern in the 2021 NCAA championship game, was the last team to outshoot the Huskies.
Northeastern opened the scoring with a power-play goal from Alina Mueller with less than seven minutes to go in the second period, and the Huskies lead remained until Connors had a takeaway in Northeastern's defensive end and buried it to tie the game with 22 seconds left in the period.
The tie lasted just 20 seconds, as Northeastern's Peyton Anderson jumped on a rebound off a Mueller shot that hit the pipe, scoring with 2.3 seconds before the ice cut.
Skylar Fontaine added Northeastern's third goal with 12-plus minutes to go in the game.
The Tigers will continue their non-conference run to close out the 2021 portion of the schedule, heading to Providence next weekend before a visit to Syracuse on the second weekend of December.
