Men's Basketball Opens Season With 94-28 Win Over Rutgers-Camden

PRINCETON, N.J. – In a contest that saw all 17 players who dressed for the game score a basket, the Princeton University men's basketball team opened the 2021-22 season with a 94-28 victory over Rutgers University-Camden Tuesday night inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
The Tigers' 66-point margin of victory was just eight points short of the program record of 74, when the Tigers defeated Dartmouth College 116-42 on January 14, 1967.
As a team, the Tigers shot 54.3 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Scarlet Raptors, 37-26. The Tigers also finished with 20 steals, and forcing 32 Rutgers-Camden turnovers.
Freshman Mason Hooks led all scorers with 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting and also had a game-high five rebounds. Senior Jaelin Llewellyn and freshman Darius Gakwasi tied for the game-high in assists, as each handed out five. Senior Drew Friberg led the game in steals, tying his career-high from December 29, 2019, against Lehigh University with five.
Princeton set the tone early, opening with a 5-0 run thanks to a layup at 19:49 and three-pointer at 19:23 by senior Ethan Wright. Back-to-back three-pointers by junior Ryan Langborg helped Princeton extend its lead to 22-6 with 13:30 on the clock.
While Rutgers-Camden scored the first two baskets of the second half, sophomore Matt Allocco drove baseline then took off of one-foot for an emphatic two-handed slam with 17:16 on the clock to ignite an 11-0 run that saw the Tigers surge ahead, 63-19, with 13:38 left to play.
With 8:28 remaining, a Hooks layup led off an 8-0 run that saw led by 55 points with a score of 79-24 at 7:17. From there, Princeton would hold on for the 94-28 triumph.

Princeton continued to surge ahead; with 8:22 on the clock, a Hooks dunk sparked a 6-0 run that gave the Tigers a 32-9 advantage.
