Men’s Basketball Comes up Just Short at Hofstra, 81-77

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Princeton University men's basketball team was able to reduce an 18-point deficit to a single point, but the Tigers came up just short Wednesday night inside the David S. Mack Exhibition Center, falling to Hofstra University 81-77.
Along with out-scoring the Pride 43-31 in the second half, Princeton also shot 31-for-57 from the field for a season-high 54.4%
Senior Jaelin Llewellyn had a game-high 24 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the field and 4-for-8 shooting from three, along with four rebounds. Senior Ethan Wright had his second-straight double-double and his fourth of the season, finishing with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while also handing out a career-best six assists. Junior Ryan Langborg shot 6-for-9 from the field and 4-for-6 from three for 16 points, pulled down a career-high seven rebounds, and handed out a career-best four assists. Junior Tosan Evbuomwan also added 14 points on 7-for-10 shooting.
Langborg scored the Tigers' first basket of the game on a catch-and-shoot three with 18:28 on the clock, making it a 4-3 game. He would drain another three-pointer at 17:06, then Princeton took an 11-10 lead following a three-pointer by Wright with 16:34 left in the half.
A 10-0 Pride run gave Hofstra a 20-11 advantage with 14:27 on the clock, then Llewellyn got the Tigers back on the scoreboard with a driving layup at 14:10, making it 20-13. An Evbuomwan layup with 11:59 left in the half sparked a 7-0 Tiger run, that made it a 22-20 contest at 10:41. The Pride would then take a nine-point advantage at 34-25 with 8:08 left in the half. Senior Max Johns sank a corner three to make it 36-28 with 6:20 on the clock, but a 7-0 Hofstra run saw the Pride take a 43-28 lead at 4:07, and a 50-34 advantage into halftime.
A Langborg three-pointer with 15:30 remaining sparked an 8-0 run, making it a 59-48 contest following a Wright three-pointer with 14:27 left to play. The Pride extended their lead to 16 at 66-50 with 11:32 remaining, but the Tigers trimmed it to 10 following a Llewellyn three-pointer at 6:50, 70-60.
The Tigers return to Jadwin Gymnasium to host Drexel University (3-3) on Saturday, December 4, at 4 p.m. inside Jadwin Gymnasium.

With 4:20 left to play, an Evbuomwan jumper in the paint led off a 7-0 run that saw the Tigers make it a three-point game at 76-73 following a layup by sophomore Matt Allocco at 2:05.
