Men's Basketball Triumphs Over UMBC, 89-77

PRINCETON, N.J. – With help from three double digit scorers and an enormous spark off the bench from senior Elijah Barnes, the Princeton University men's basketball team defeated the University of Maryland, Baltimore County 89-77, Monday night inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
Senior Jaelin Llewellyn led all scorers with 24 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the field, while senior Ethan Wright recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 20 points on 8-for-16 shooting, along with a game-high 13 rebounds. Junior Tosan Evbuomwan added 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting, a game-high seven assists, and five rebounds. In 13 minutes, Barnes went 4-for-4 from the field for nine points, two rebounds and one block.
As a team, the Tigers shot 35-for-68 from the field, good for 51.5%. Princeton also took care of the ball, recording a season-low six turnovers to UMBC's 13.
The Tigers opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers, courtesy of Llewellyn at 19:24, and junior Ryan Langborg with 19:00 on the clock. An Evbuomwan layup with 16:34 left to play gave Princeton an 11-7 advantage, but 4-0 Retriever run saw UMBC tie it up at 11-11 with 15:51 left in the half.
Princeton opened the second half with layups by Llewellyn and Evbuomwan, taking a 47-39 lead with 18:28 remaining. UMBC responded with a 5-0 run, but the Tigers managed to maintain their advantage with help from a Llewellyn jumper at 16:04, giving the Tigers a 54-49 lead.
Barnes delivered for the Tigers down the stretch; his short jumper with 7:04 on the clock saw Princeton take a 73-71 lead, then he threw down a powerful two-handed dunk at 6:41, extending the Tigers' lead to 75-71. With 5:32 remaining, he drained a three-pointer that gave Princeton an 81-71 advantage, then a pair of Evbuomwan free throws with 1:53 on the clock had Princeton up by 14 points, 89-75. The Tigers would hold on for the victory, with a final score of 89-77.

A senior Drew Friberg three-pointer at 5:16 gave the Tigers a 32-28 lead, but UMBC knotted the score 32-32 with 4:12 left in the half.
