
LIU to Visit Women's Hockey Team Monday to Open '22

On LIU: LIU (11-7-1, 10-0-0 NEWHA) is perfect in league play at 10-0 and is coming to Princeton on a five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1), with the last two of those being a win and a tie on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day against RIT on the Sharks' home ice. Megan Bouveur leads LIU on the season with nine goals. The team entered last weekend ranked fifth in the nation in power-play goals, with 14, and power-play percentage, at .246, while ranking tops in the nation in penalty minutes, at 10.29 per game. Bouveur was fifth in the nation in game-winning goals, with three, and fifth in power-play goals, with four, while Megan Roe was sixth in the nation in penalties, at 12, Trinda Holm was seventh in save percentage, at .944, and Carrigan Umpherville was ninth in shorthanded goals, wifh one.
Common opponents: LIU has a pair of ECAC Hockey opponents on its schedule, falling twice to Quinnipiac on Oct. 1 and 2 in Connecticut and losing in OT, 2-1, at home to Yale on Nov. 23. Princeton split with Quinnipiac, with each team winning on the road, and won at Yale. Yale's return trip to Princeton is set to end the regular season on Feb. 19.
National rankings: Entering last weekend, Princeton ranked in the top 10 in the nation in team faceoff winning percentage (seventh, .561) and eighth in scoring defense (1.64 goals allowed per game). Sharon Frankel was tops in the nation with 283 faceoff wins while Rachel McQuigge was third in the nation in save percentage at .951 and Maggie Connors was fifth with three game-winning goals.
The series with LIU: Princeton and LIU have never met. Princeton has faced only one member of LIU's conference, the New England Women's Hockey Alliance, all time, sweeping Saint Anselm to open 2020, winning 5-0 and 10-0. Franklin Pierce (N.H.), Post (Conn.), Sacred Heart (Conn.) and Saint Michael's (Vt.) are the other members of the conference, with Stonehill (Mass.) set to join next season.
Century club: Junior Maggie Connors earned her 100th career point on Dec. 4 at Providence, getting an assist on Mia Coene's goal in the 1-1 tie. Former teammate Carly Bullock '20 was the last Tiger to reach 100, finishing her career with 159 points.
An historic season: In 2019-20, Princeton set program records for wins (26), points (305) and assists (183), and had the second-most goals in a season, at 122, behind only the 135 scored in thee 1983-84 season
Firsts: Four Tigers have scored their first goals as Tigers in freshmen Sarah Paul, Mia Coene, Dominique Cormier and Ellie Marcovsky. The first-timers represent four of Princeton's 12 goal scorers so far on the season.
Program record?: Senior Rachel McQuigge has a 1.54 GAA so far this season and has a 1.69 GAA for her career entering the LIU game. Princeton's program record for career GAA for goalies who were regular starters is 1.70, held by Roxanne Gaudiel '06. McQuigge already holds the single-season record for best GAA among starters, at 1.51 from the 2019-20 season. McQuigge could also achieve the program's best save percentage in a career by a a regular starter, held by former teammate Stephanie Neatby '20 at .933, standing at .936 entering the LIU game. McQuigge also surpassed 1,000 career saves during the Providence weekend, something that eight previous Tiger netminders, most recently Neatby, have done, with 1,075 career stops entering the LIU game. McQuigge is ninth on Princeton's career save list, with Kari Rosenkranz '92 eighth at 1,086 saves. Elizabeth Hill '96 is seventh, at 1,273 saves.
Olympic dreams: Princeton is without Sarah Fillier this season as she aims to help Canada pursue Olympic gold. Fillier, who would return as a junior, is with former Tiger teammate Claire Thompson '20 in pursuit of a spot on the Canadian roster, which has yet to be announced.
