Princeton opens its 2021 women's cross country season on Friday at the Lehigh Invitational. The meet will start at 5:30 p.m.
Ahead of the opening race, the team earned preseason praise with a No. 24 ranking in the USTFCCCA Top-25. In the USTFCCCA Regional Rankings, Princeton slotted in at No. 2 in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Regionally, the Tigers sit behind No. 1 Georgetown and ahead of No. 3 West Virginia, No. 4 Villanova and No. 5 Penn State.
"This is a special weekend for our group," said head coach Brad Hunt. "The opportunity to compete together is something we cherish and look forward to. There's such a level of excitement amongst the team, knowing we have the chance to compete in the Orange and Black and represent Princeton. We appreciate these moments and look to capitalize on each one we have this season. The preseason polls are nice, we are glad that people around the country respect the caliber of student-athlete at Princeton and the track record of success we have. Still, it is on us to keep building each week so that when we get to November we are where we want to be as a unit."
This weekend marks the first of three trips to Lehigh for the Tigers this season, giving Princeton two chances to test out the course where the 2021 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional will be held on November 12.
"Course familiarity and preparation for NCAA Regionals is a big component of our strategy this weekend," said Hunt. "Our goal is to peak in that third race on this course, so getting our feet under us and starting that strategic prep for Regionals will be our big takeaway after the meet."
