Princeton at Columbia
Five storylines
Â
NCAA bound
Princeton wrapped up an Ivy League title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with last week's 2-0 win over Brown. Princeton enters the final weekend of the regular season at 6-0 in the league, one game ahead of 5-1 Harvard.
Â
Should Princeton lose to Columbia and Harvard defeat Brown, then Princeton and Harvard would tie for the league title. Princeton would still get the automatic bid by virtue of its win over the Crimson.
Â
The NCAA tournament field of 18, along with the four host sites, will be announced Sunday night at 10 on ncaa.com. The two play-in games will be held Wednesday, with first- and second-round games will be played next Friday and Sunday. The Final Four is the following weekend at UConn.
Â
Ivy champs
Princeton's 2022 Ivy title is the 27th in program history. Every other team in the league has combined for 25 Ivy titles.
Â
A win over Columbia would give Princeton a perfect league record in a season for the 20th time. The last time Princeton went consecutive seasons without winning an Ivy title was 1992-93.
Â
Series history
This is the 25th meeting between Princeton and Columbia, and Princeton holds a 23-1 leads in the series. Columbia's win came in 2014, in New York City, in a season in which the Lions finished second in the league to Princeton.
Â
Since that loss, Princeton has won all six games between the two, outscoring Columbia by a combined 30-5. A Columbia win would give the Lions a winning league record for the first time since 2017.
Â
League leaders
Princeton leads the Ivy League in scoring offense at 3.125 goals per game, which is more than a full goal better than the next best team (Brown, at 2.063).
Â
Beth Yeager leads the league in goals with 11, and Princeton has two other players in the Top 10 (Sammy Popper, 9, fourth and Sam Davidson, 6, seventh).
Â
Ophelie Bemelmans is the only player in the league in double figures in assists, with 11. Yeager leads the league with 30 points (11 goals, eight assists), while Popper (fourth with 20 points), Â Grace Schulze (sixth, 17 points), Davidson (10th, 12 points) and Ali McCarthy (11th, 11 points, missed four games due to injury).
Â
For starters
Princeton has five players who have started all 16 games this season: Sammy Popper, Ophelie Bemelmans, Gabby Andretta, Hannah Davey and Zoe Shephard.
