Tigers Open Two-Game Set at Dartmouth With 4-0 Win
February 12, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
Maggie Connors scored twice and Stef Wallace had three assists to lead nine Tigers who scored points, and Rachel McQuigge had 27 saves to secure the shutout in a 4-0 win for the Princeton women's hockey team on Saturday in Hanover, N.H.
The teams will rematch Sunday at 1 p.m. in a rescheduled game that was originally set for Baker Rink last month. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (U.S.) and Stretch (international). Live stats are available here.
It was the Connors' second two-goal game of the season, along with the season opener at Yale, while Annie Kuehl had her eighth goal of the year and Shannon Griffin had her fourth to open the scoring in the first period. Wallace, a sophomore, tied her single-game point best and had a career high with three assists. Wallace had two goals and a helper in the other three-point game of her career, which also came at Dartmouth's Thompson Arena on Jan. 10, 2020.
Shannon Griffin opened the scoring with 12-plus minutes to go in the opening period, taking a puck from along the boards and skating it into the slot where she fired on net and in to give Princeton a 1-0 lead.
It stayed 1-0 into the second period before growing to 4-0 in that middle frame. Connors had her first of two on the day just before the midway point of the period, taking a pass from Grace Kuipers at the blue line and skating it toward the faceoff dot to Dartmouth netminder Maggie Emerson's right, putting a shot on net through a crowd in front of the crease to double the lead.
Kuehl had the first of two goals in the final two minutes of the second period, taking a pass from Sharon Frankel from behind the net and firing from within feet of the same spot where Connors scored to push the lead to 3-0.
In the closing seconds of the period, Connors skated a puck about three-quarters of the way around the Tigers' offensive zone, finding her chance with a wrap-around shot inside the post to Emerson's left to make the lead 4-0.
