Tigers Take Opener in ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal Series at No. 6 Harvard
February 25, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
The first is a best-of-three ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series went to the Princeton women's hockey team on Friday night at No. 6-ranked Harvard as the Tigers never trailed in the series opener.
Princeton will look to complete the quarterfinal-round win on Saturday in a 3 p.m. start. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ in the U.S. and Stretch internationally. Live stats will be available here.
Though the Tigers never trailed, the Crimson were never more than a goal behind until the final five minutes. Annie Kuehl took a pass across the front of the goal from Maggie Connors and had the finish to give Princeton a 1-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game.
Harvard answered with three-plus minutes left in the opening period on a goal from Brooke Jovanovich, and it stayed 1-1 into the second period.
Princeton went ahead again when Sharon Frankel sent in a rebound less than three minutes into the second.
Kate Glover answered for the Crimson with just 45 seconds left in the middle period, and the teams were tied again going into the ice cut.
As it had in each of the first two periods, Princeton had a goal before the midway point of the frame, this time from Frankel's fellow captain Shannon Griffin.
With just less than five minutes to go in the game, Griffin, a Massachusetts native, had her first career two-goal game, weaving her way through Harvard defenders and around netminder Lindsay Reed for the two-goal lead.
