Sarah Fillier and Emerson O'Leary each had two goals and Sarah Paul and Jane Kuehl had one apiece as the Princeton women's hockey team opened its season Friday night at Baker Rink with a 6-2 win over Robert Morris.Â
The teams will meet again Saturday at 1 p.m. back at Baker Rink to wrap the weekend.
Fillier and Issy Wunder co-led the team with three points apiece, Fillier adding an assist on Paul's goal and Wunder getting three helpers. The three points moved Fillier to 154 for her career, up two spots to eighth-most in program history and just two out of seventh. Her 65 career goals remain 15th-most in program history, and with the 89th assist of her career, Fillier remains in fourth on that career list, now five back of third.
Ten Tigers had points on the night, with Wallis York getting two assists for her first collegiate points in her Tiger debut. Paul added an assist to her goal, getting her first two points since Nov. 6, 2021 after battling injury since her last game with Princeton two weeks later.Â
Princeton opened the scoring with Paul's put-back just past the midway point of the first period, and then Princeton scored twice in the last 12 seconds of the opening frame. Kuehl slid one home from the far side of the circle to RMU netminder Maggie Hatch with 11.4 seconds left, and just 7.5 seconds later, Fillier had her second goal with a shot from the faceoff dot to Hatch's left to make it 3-0.
Fillier made it 4-0 with a long blast in the slot with five-plus minutes gone in the second period, and just before the midway point of the third, O'Leary converted on a 5-on-3 to make it 4-1. Just more than four minutes later, O'Leary made it 5-1, redirecting a York puck in the slot.Â
Taylor Hyland made 13 saves as Princeton outshot RMU 40-15 on goal and 72-28 overall. The Tigers were 3 of 5 on the power play while squelching all four Colonials chances on the advantage. Princeton also dominated at the dot, winning 41 of 50 draws.
