
ECAC Quarterfinals at Colgate Ahead This Weekend for Women's Hockey Team

A best-of-three series is ahead for the Princeton women's hockey team at Colgate this weekend as the ECAC Hockey playoffs get underway.

ECAC Quarterfinal History: Princeton has made the ECAC quarterfinals every year it has competed since 2014. Princeton has won the quarterfinals in its last two appearances, making history at Harvard in 2022 by becoming the first eighth seed to win the series against the top seed, and in 2020 when it beat Quinnipiac at Baker Rink. Princeton's only quarterfinals against Colgate were in 2006 (win in sweep) and 2007 (loss in sweep). Princeton's last sweep win in the quarters was in 2019 (St. Lawrence) and last time swept in the quarters was in 2015 (Quinnipiac).
The Series with Colgate: Princeton leads the all-time series with Colgate 31-13-5 overall and 18-7-1 in Hamilton. Colgate's current three-game win streak in the series it is first ever of that length. The Raiders won the game in Baker 5-1 on Oct. 28 in Princeton's season opener and 6-2 on Jan. 14 in Hamilton.Â
Stat Rankings: Entering the week, Princeton stood 11th in the nation in faceoff win percentage at .533 and 20th in total power play goals (17). Sarah Fillier was sixth nationally in faceoff wins (430) and 17th in goals per game (0.61), Maggie Connors' five power-play goals are 15th in the nation, and Taylor Hyland's goalie winning percentage of .567 was 18th nationally.
Checking the Charts: Both senior Maggie Connors and junior Sarah Fillier are in the top 15 in Princeton history in career goals, assists and points. Connors' 76 goals are tied for ninth (eighth is 77, seventh is 87), Connors' 66 assists are tied for 11th (10th is 75), and Connors' 142 points are tied for 12th (T-10th is 147). Fillier's 61 goals are 15th (T-13th is 69), Fillier's 86 assists are fifth (fourth is 87, third is 94), and Fillier's 147 points are 10th (ninth is 151).Â
Outshoot 'em: Princeton has outshot its opponent on goal in 18 of 28 games on the season. On the season, Princeton is averaging 33.7 shots a game to 24.6 for its opponent.Â
Rookies: First-year Tigers are three of Princeton's nine leading point scorers this season, with Issy Wunder (7g/9a) third with 16 points, Katherine Khramtsov (7g/7a) tied for fifth with 14 and Emerson O'Leary (6g/4a) tied for seventh with 10 points. Classmate Taylor Hyland has played 48.6 percent of the team's minutes in goal and leads the team with a .905 save percentage. Hyland's eight wins are the most for a Princeton rookie since Stephanie Neatby '20 won 12 in 2016-17.
Between the Pipes: Sophomore Jennifer Olnowich has played 51.4 percent of the minutes in goal this season with rookie Taylor Hyland playing the other 48.6 percent. Each has a 2.55 GAA, and Hyland has the edge in save percentage, .905 to .884.
Olympic Gold: Junior Sarah Fillier returned to Princeton this season for the first time since the 2019-20 season that ended due to the pandemic just before the NCAA tournament. In the meantime, Fillier helped Canada to two IIHF World Championships and Olympic gold. At the Olympics, Fillier co-led Canada in goals (five) and led the team in points (11).
