Matt Allocco’s Career Day Leads Men’s Basketball Past Dartmouth, 76-58

PRINCETON, N.J. – Led by senior Matt Allocco's game and career-high 25 points, the Princeton University men's basketball team earned a 76-58 victory over Dartmouth Monday afternoon inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
Allocco's 25 points came on 8-for-14 shooting from the field and 5-for-6 shooting from three, with his five made three-pointers also being a career-high. Additionally, Allocco handed out a game-high five assists. He was one of three Tigers to finish in double-digits, as sophomore Caden Pierce had 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field, a game-high 10 rebounds and three assists. In addition to recording his seventh double-double of the season and his third-straight, Pierce also tallied the 14th of his career Sophomore Xaivian Lee added 16 points, five rebounds and two assists.
As a team, the Tigers took care of the ball and handed out 13 assists and had only five turnovers. Princeton also out-rebounded the Big Green, 31-19, and shot 42.3% from three, 11-for-26.
Ignited by a Pierce layup with 18:25 on the clock, the Tigers used an early 7-0 run to take a 7-3 lead with 17:02 left in the half. Allocco heated up, draining three-pointers at 16:25 and 15:51 help Princeton take an 13-8 advantage.
With 14:10 left in the half, another Pierce layup ignited a 12-0 run that put the Tigers ahead, 25-10, with 12:37 on the clock following a three-pointer by senior Zach Martini. Dartmouth responded with a 7-0 run of its own to make it a 25-17 contest at 9:20, but another 7-0 run led by a Pierce layup with 7:13 left in the half saw the Tigers lead 35-19 with 5:23 on the clock. Princeton would go into halftime with a 43-30 advantage.
Lee made an impact early in the second half, scoring five quick points to put the Tigers up, 48-32, with 18:12 left to play. Lee's impressive half continued, with another layup at 16:07 putting Princeton in front by 13 points, 50-37.
Jumpers by freshman Dalen Davis and Allocco gave the Tigers a 59-44 advantage with 9:24 remaining, but back-to-back Dartmouth threes made it a single-digit game at 61-52 with 6:04 left to play. Allocco drained another three-pointer at 5:08 that put Princeton up 66-53 then 4:27 on the clock a Lee three-pointer sparked a 10-0 run that saw the Tigers surge ahead, 76-56, with 1:27 remaining after a pair of free throws by sophomore Vernon Collins. From there, the Tigers would hold on for the 76-58 triumph.
