Yeager Scores Both As No. 13 Princeton Tops No. 6 Maryland 2-1
October 25, 2024 | Field Hockey
By Princeton-Maryland standards, this one was positively a blowout. By the standards of anyone who was simply watching, it was a riveting field hockey game between two of the top teams in the country.
What made this game a blowout? Well, while this was the ninth straight game between these two that was decided by one goal, it was the first one in six that wasn't decided either in overtime or on a score in the final minute. What made it riveting? It was an edge-of-your-seat game where every possession was tense .
Beth Yeager scored twice as the 13th-ranked Tigers a 2-1 win over the sixth-ranked Terrapins, making it two straight Top 10 win after last weekend's win at Harvard. Princeton is now 10-4 after winning its fourth straight game.
Princeton returns to its Ivy League schedule Sunday at noon, when it hosts Dartmouth. A win in that game would clinch at least a share of the program's 28th Ivy League championship and would guarantee the Tigers the host role and No. 1 seed for the upcoming Ivy League tournament.

Yeager's first goal of the day came in the second quarter and was set up incredibly by freshman Anna Faulstich, who dribbled down the right side and swept into the circle before putting it right onto Yeager's stick, who slapped into the back of the cage. Maryland tied the score 1-1 five minutes into the third quarter on a penalty corner, and then Yeager scored the game-winner on a penalty stroke with 2:19 remaining in the third quarter. Yeager, who now has 11 goals on the season to lead the Ivy League, set up the stroke with a long run into the circle.Anna Faulstich has created all kinds of chances so far. This time, Beth cashes it in, and the Tigers are on top 1-0 in the second. pic.twitter.com/u6LFXlDmJ7
