Women's Volleyball Earns 3-0 Sweep Over Brown

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team successfully defended home court Friday night inside Dillon Gymnasium, earning a 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-23) triumph over Brown.
The victory was the 197th of Head Coach Sabrina King's career, moving her just three shy of 200.
The Tigers got off to a strong start, using a 4-0 run to take a 4-1 lead. Brown would soon use a 4-0 run of its to jump ahead, 9-6. Princeton showed its resilience, responding with a 5-0 run and gaining a 13-11 advantage following a Chaney kill. The Tigers were able to maintain their lead, with a kill by Fulton then a Bear attacking error giving Princeton a 17-14 lead. Brown was able to keep it close, but an Onyechi kill gave Princeton set point then a Chaney kill secured the 26-24 opening set victory.
Ignited by a Chaney kill, the Tigers opened the second set on a 5-0 run. With help from back-to-back junior Lucia Scalamandre kills then a Chaney block, the Tigers extended their lead to seven at 12-5. Princeton soon extended its advantage to double figures, with a kill by Chaney sparking a 4-0 run that put the Tigers ahead, 19-8. Set point came courtesy of a Draper kill then Scalamandre put one down on set point as the Tigers went up 2-0 in the match with a 25-15 second set triumph.
While the Bears opened the third set with a 4-0 run, a kill by junior Valerie Nutakor led a 4-0 Princeton run that put the Tigers in front, 5-3. Chaney would soon produce three-consecutive kills and give the Tigers a 10-7 advantage. While Brown narrowed the deficit to one at 16-15, a kill by Scalamandre ignited a 4-0 run that put Princeton back in control at 20-15. The Tigers went on to earn the 3-0 sweep after prevailing in the third set, 25-23. Fittingly, it was Chaney who delivered the emphatic kill on match point.

Sophomore Kamryn Chaney recorded her seventh double-double of the season as she led the match in kills with 14 and the team in digs with 10. Additionally, Chaney tied the match-high in service aces with two and had three blocks. Sophomore Sydney Draper handed out a match-high 30 assists while freshman Jackie Onyechi recorded a match-high seven blocks. Senior Shelby Fulton also added a career-high six blocks."We had a lot of energy, we executed what we needed to execute. I'm really proud of us."
