Sarah Paul Scores Twice In 2-1 Win In Overtime Over No. 7/9 Quinnipiac
December 07, 2024 | Women's Ice Hockey
The nation's No. 2-ranked offense (Princeton) and No. 2-ranked defense (Quinnipiac) did battle at Hobey Baker Rink in a crucial ECAC contest, and ultimately Princeton had Sarah Paul and the Bobcats didn't in a 2-1 overtime win for the Tigers.
Paul had both goals for the Tigers, scoring once in the third period and then slamming home the game-winner 2:06 into OT to give the No. 14-ranked Tigers a win over No. 7/9 Quinnipiac.
The Tigers were 2-for-2 on the penalty kill during the game, and connected on 1-of-2 power play attempts to add to the nation's top power play unit.
Jen Olnowich made 28 saves for the Tigers, while Kaley Doyle stopped 20 shots for the Bobcats.
The first period was scoreless, Princeton doing all it could to break through with 11 shots on goal in the period. The most dangerous attempt was a clean break from Issy Wunder early, but her shot clanged off the post after beating the goalie clean.
The Bobcats flipped momentum in the second period, finally cashing in with 6:33 remaining in the middle period when Laurence Frenette swatted home a loose puck just outside the crease after a curl towards goal from Emerson Jarvis.
Sarah Paul found the tying goal with 13:33 left in the third period, snapping home her eighth power-play goal of the season from the middle of the slot off a feed from Angelina DiGirolamo.
The winner came in overtime when Jane Kuehl took advantage of a lazy clear from the Bobcat netminder and patiently worked to open space behind the net and found Paul with just enough space in front to knock in the goal.
The Tigers conclude the first semester of play on December 10, hosting Long Island at Baker Rink at 6 p.m.
