PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton university women's cross country team will travel to University Park, Penn. on Friday, September 13 for the Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State. The 6k race will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the Blue & White Courses.
About the Tigers
Princeton returns to the course after a first place team finish at their season-opening New Jersey Jam last Friday, September 6. The Tigers earned 28 points as they raced in a field of five local rivals on their home course in Princeton, N.J.
Senior Mena Scatchard, who took first place in the New Jersey Jam with a 4k time of 14:01.6, was named the Ivy League Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, marking her first weekly league honor this season.
Sophomore Anna McNatt took second place (14:09.1), with classmate Olivia Martin taking seventh place (14:14.0).
A pair of freshmen rounded out the Tiger scorers, with Meg Madison taking eighth overall (14:16.4) and Emma De Jong taking tenth (14:21.9).
Margaret Thompson (14:24.0) and Alexis Allen (14:27.1) served as the Tiger pushers to help secure the team victory.
The Tigers enter the season after placing second at the 2023 Ivy League Cross Country Championships. In 2023, Scatchard was named Second-Team All-Ivy after placing 14th (21:29.9) in the race.
Princeton also took sixth at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals in 2023, with Scatchard placing 35th (20:54.0).
Brad Hunt is entering his ninth season as head coach, and has coached five student-athletes to First Team All-Ivy honors (most recently Fiona Max in 2023), 12 to Second Team All-Ivy honors, and 18 to All-Region honors.
