No. 13 Women's Hockey Heads to Cornell, Colgate For Pair Of Ranked Matchups

PRINCETON, N.J.- The No. 13 Women's hockey team will head to New York for its third straight road weekend to take on the No. 6 Cornell Big Red and the No. 5 Colgate Red Raiders.    Â

Last Time Out: The Tigers split the weekend when they faced the No. 8/9 Quinnipiac Bobcats on Friday night and then the Yale Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. Sarah Paul continued to be a problem for the Bobcats and scored twice and Issy Wunder notched what went on to be the game winning goal in a 3-1 victory and their fourth win over a ranked opponent. The contest between Princeton and Yale was a true defensive battle as both teams were held scoreless until almost the halfway point through the third period. Brooklyn Nimegeers recorded her first career goal, but Yale was able to tie things up on the power play before winning it in overtime 2-1.
Wunder-ful Issy: Issy Wunder has been a consistent force for the Tigers. The junior is second on the team in goals with 20, leads in points with 39 and has a +27 rating. Wunder picked up both her first Bluebird Hotels ECAC Forward of the Week and Forward of the Month honors and was also named the UCA Player of the Month in November.
Mac Attack: Mackenzie Alexander is one of two players on the Princeton roster with over 30 points and leads the team in assists with 24. Alexander was named the ECAC Rookie of the Month for the third straight month and has added three Rookie of the Week honors. To top it off, Alexander was honored as the back-to-back UCA Rookie of the Month in November and December.
Points For Princeton: Issy Wunder leads the country in points per game at 2.05. She is on a five game point streak and has tallied at least one point in all but one contest this season. Mackenzie Alexander has made her presence known across the collegiate hockey landscape. The freshman is tied for third in the country in points per game with 1.70 and assists with 24. She leads all freshmen in points and assists.Â
The Tigers Man Advantage: The Tigers are currently third in the NCAA on the power play. The team owns a 34.5% success rate on the man advantage and has already scored 20 power play goals compared to 24 total in the 2023-24 season.
Power Play Paul: Sarah Paul scored her first career hat trick on opening night against Robert Morris, all coming on the power play. The junior forward has 21 total goals on the season with a nation leading nine coming on the offensive advantage.
Rooks On A Roll: Every first-year player on the Princeton roster has recorded at least one goal and multiple points this season. The six member class has racked up 77 combined points, good for over 32% of the team's total.
Princeton In the PWHL: Sarah Fillier '24 was drafted with the first overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft by the New York Sirens. She notched 30 goals and 13 assists in her senior season with Princeton. Claire Thompson '20 was selected third overall by PWHL Minnesota and earned second-team All-Ivy and third-team All-ECAC honors in her final year with the Tigers in 2020.
Canada Connection: Mackenzie Alexander and Sarah Paul teamed up on the ice together this summer as part of the Canadian Development Team. The pair faced off against the U.S. in the Development Series. Paul competed with the Development team for the Six Nations Tournament in Tampere, Finland from Dec. 11-15.
Double Trouble: Twin sisters Angelina and Lucia DiGirolamo join Princeton from the Bishop Kearney Selects where they were four-time New York state champions.Â
A Fresh Look: Princeton brings in six new Tigers as part of the class of 2028- Brooklyn Nimegeers, Hannah Fetterolf, Rosie Klein, Mackenzie Alexander, and the DiGirolamo sisters.Â
The Staff: Head coach Cara Morey returns for her eighth season leading the program. Morey owns a 102-70-22 record entering the 2024-25 season and won her 100th game on Jan. 13, 2024 against Harvard. Taylor Wenczkowski joins Daniel Gould and Jamie Lundmark on the Princeton coaching staff. Wenczkowski spent the 2023-24 season playing for PWHL Boston in the league's inaugural season. Prior to the PWHL, she played three years in the Premier Hockey Federation for the Boston Pride, winning back-to-back Isobel Cups as the league champion in 2021 and 2022.
History: The Tigers and Red Raiders met earlier this season at Baker Rink where Princeton picked up its first ranked win of the season. Issy Wunder scored the game winner in overtime for a 4-3 victory. Teja Gatfield, Mackenzie Alexander and Sarah Paul each added a goal in the contest.
Cornell earned a 4-3 win at Baker Rink when the teams faced off in November. Katherine Khramtsov, Issy Wunder and Mackenzie Alexander each recorded a goal.
