Women’s Tennis Earns First Win In Season Opener

PRINCETON, N.J.- The Princeton women's tennis team the Sunday morning matchup against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights marked on their calendars. The contest signaled not just the team's season opener, but also the first dual match in the new Racquet Center at Meadows Campus.
The Tigers clinched a 4-1 victory to add another "first" to the day: Elizabeth Johnson's first win as the team's head coach.
Rutgers started off the match with the win in doubles, but that did not deter Princeton.
Eva Elbaz quickly finished off Jackie Lopez 6-0, 6-2 to tie the match up 1-1. Alice Ferlito gave the Tigers the lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Mai Nguyen.
In her collegiate dual meet debut, Pearlie Zhang picked up the victory at No. 6 against Naomi Karki 6-2, 7-6.
Bella Chhiv finished off the day with a three-set battle at the No. 2 spot. After dropping the first set, the sophomore rallied back for a 7-5 second set win and dominated 6-1 in the third to clinch the match for Princeton.
