No. 13/14 Women's Hockey Set For New York Road Trip To Kick Off New Year

PRINCETON, N.J.- The Tigers are back in action to kick off the new year with a weekend road trip to New York. No. 13/14 Princeton is set to take on the RPI Engineers and the Union Garnet Chargers. Cara Morey's squad looks to keep its foot on the gas, picking up five straight wins and coming out on top in eight of its last nine contests.

Last Time Out: Princeton picked up a 4-2 win over the LIU Sharks to close out 2024 in the win column and move to 10-5 on the year. The team's last conference matchup was between the Tigers and No. 7/9 Quinnipiac Bobcats. Two goals from Sarah Paul including the overtime winner led the way for Princeton's third ranked win of the season.
Wunder-ful Issy: Issy Wunder has been a consistent force for the Tigers. The junior leads the team in goals with 17, has a +23 rating and is second on the team in points with 31. Wunder picked up both her first Bluebird Hotels ECAC Forward of the Week and Forward of the Month honors. She was also named the UCA Player of the Month in November.
Mac Attack: Mackenzie Alexander owns the team high in points with 33 and assists with 24. Alexander was named the ECAC Rookie of the Month for the third straight month and has added three Rookie of the Week honors. She is third on the team in +/- with a +18 rating, good for UCA Rookie of the Month in November.
Points For Princeton:Â Mackenzie Alexander has made her presence known across the collegiate hockey landscape. The freshman is tied for first in the country in points per game with 2.20. She leads all freshmen in points (33) and assists (24). Issy Wunder is not far behind her and sits at third with 2.07 points per game.
The Tigers Man Advantage: The Tigers are currently at the top of the NCAA on the power play. The team owns a 40.4 success rate on the man advantage and has already scored 19 power play goals compared to 24 total in the 2023-24 season.
Power Play Paul: Sarah Paul scored her first career hat trick on opening night against Robert Morris, all coming on the power play. The junior forward has 16 total goals on the season with eight coming on the offensive advantage.
Princeton In the PWHL: Sarah Fillier '24 was drafted with the first overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft by the New York Sirens. She notched 30 goals and 13 assists in her senior season with Princeton. Claire Thompson '20 was selected third overall by PWHL Minnesota and earned second-team All-Ivy and third-team All-ECAC honors in her final year with the Tigers in 2020.
Canada Connection: Mackenzie Alexander and Sarah Paul teamed up on the ice together this summer as part of the Canadian Development Team. The pair faced off against the U.S. in the Development Series. Paul competed with the Development team for the Six Nations Tournament in Tampere, Finland from Dec. 11-15.
Double Trouble: Twin sisters Angelina and Lucia DiGirolamo join Princeton from the Bishop Kearney Selects where they were four-time New York state champions.Â
A Fresh Look: Princeton brings in six new Tigers as part of the class of 2028- Brooklyn Nimegeers, Hannah Fetterolf, Rosie Klein, Mackenzie Alexander, and the DiGirolamo sisters.Â
The Staff: Head coach Cara Morey returns for her eighth season leading the program. Morey owns a 102-70-22 record entering the 2024-25 season and won her 100th game on Jan. 13, 2024 against Harvard. Taylor Wenczkowski joins Daniel Gould and Jamie Lundmark on the Princeton coaching staff. Wenczkowski spent the 2023-24 season playing for PWHL Boston in the league's inaugural season. Prior to the PWHL, she played three years in the Premier Hockey Federation for the Boston Pride, winning back-to-back Isobel Cups as the league champion in 2021 and 2022.Â
Series History: In the two matchups between Princeton and RPI in the 2023-24 season, the Tigers picked up the first win at Baker Rink with a 6-0 shutout with Jennifer Olnowich making 22 saves between the pipes. Later that season, the rematch ended in a 1-1 tie.
The two games against the Garnet Chargers in 2023-24 had a similar story, however, this time it started with a 1-1 tie at Baker. The second matchup had Princeton making the trip up to Schenectady, N.Y. to take on Union. This game had the Tigers on the offensive as they worked to a 5-1 victory
