DiGirolamo Overtime Winner Secures First Home Victory Of The Season For Women’s Hockey

PRINCETON, N.J.- The Princeton Tigers faced their second overtime game in as many matchups in the home opener against the RPI Engineers.
RPI's Mia Montanari sent the game to overtime with a goal with 1.6 seconds remaining in regulation however that did not deter the Tigers.
The extra time kicked off and a penalty from the Engineers sent the Tigers on the power play, ready to close things out. With an extra attacker and time on their side, Princeton won the faceoff and fired off three quick shots. Gabby Kim received the puck on the blocked shot and sent it over to Jane Kuehl. Kuehl fired the puck in and Angelina DiGirolamo got the one timer past the RPI goaltender for the overtime winner and Princeton's first home victory of the season.
The Engineers took a quick 1-0 lead just a minute into the contest but Princeton had a response. Issy Wunder knotted the score at one apiece with Mackenzie Alexander and Emerson O'Leary getting the assists.
Princeton killed off back to back power plays to open the second period. With momentum in their favor, Princeton got the puck back and Alexander found Rosie Klein speeding towards the RPI goal. Klein carried the puck up and slapped in the shot to give Princeton the lead.
RPI would not go down easily, again tying the score, this time at 2-2 just five minutes later on a goal from the Engineers' captain Nina Cristof.
With the score set at 2-2, the Tigers opened the third period on the power play and looked to capitalize.. Taking full advantage of the player up opportunity, Kim passed the puck over to Jane Kuehl on the side of the net. Kim followed the play and got the pass back and ripped the puck into the back of the net to put Princeton up 3-2.
Alexander and Kuehl led the way with two points on two assists each. The win marked Princeton's third straight game with three or more goals coming from different scorers.
Taylor Hyland had 17 saves between the pipes for the Tigers.
