Corniea's Career-High 40 Saves Help Women's Hockey to Shutout at No. 7 Quinnipiac
November 22, 2025 | Women's Ice Hockey
Making a career-high 40 saves, Princeton junior Uma Corniea backstopped the Princeton women's hockey team to a 2-0 win at No. 7 Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon in Connecticut, sweeping the season series with the Bobcats.
The Tigers will continue their ECAC schedule on Tuesday with an 11 a.m. visit from Yale at Baker Rink.
Princeton (8–4–0, 6–2–0 ECAC) scored once in each of the first two periods and leaned on an airtight penalty kill and a locked-in Corniea to close out the game despite Quinnipiac (12–3–1, 4–3–1 ECAC) outshooting the Tigers 40–24, including 16 shots in the opening frame.
The Tigers opened the scoring at 14:28 of the first period when Issy Wunder buried her fourth of the season off a feed from Emerson O'Leary and Mackenzie Alexander. The even-strength strike stood as the game-winner.
Quinnipiac generated sustained pressure early, including two power plays, but Corniea stopped all 16 shots she faced in the frame.
Princeton doubled its advantage midway through the second when Riley Sorokan hammered home a power-play goal at 12:08. O'Leary picked up her second assist of the afternoon, and Rosie Klein added another helper.
The Tigers' penalty kill was tested heavily, facing four Quinnipiac opportunities, and came up perfect.
Princeton protected its 2–0 lead with disciplined play in the third, surrendering no power plays and limiting second-chance looks. Corniea made 10 saves in the final frame to complete the 40-save shutout, surpassing her previous career high of 32 set on Nov. 11, 2023 against Mercyhurst.
Princeton swept the game's three stars:
-
Uma Corniea — 40-save shutout
-
Emerson O'Leary — 2 assists, 58% faceoff percentage
-
Issy Wunder — game-winning goal
