Trevor Powers has worked with linebackers at Princeton for the last three seasons; during that time, the position has earned five All-Ivy League honors, while Mike Zeuli was named the 2014 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year.
During his first season, when Princeton won the 2013 Ivy League championship, he helped Zeuli earn All-Ivy League honors as a first-year starter at the linebacker spot.
Princeton was ranked second in the Ivy League in total defense and rushing defense, and it was third in pass defense. The Tigers had multiple All-Ivy League players at each level, including Bushnell Cup finalist and Senior Bowl invitee Caraun Reid.
The 2013 defense was known for its attacking style, which translated to 23 takeaways during the season. Princeton ranked third nationally in sacks (3.7 per game), fourth in first downs allowed and 13th in third-down conversion defense.
Over the last two seasons, he has helped develop a set of younger linebackers — Rohan Hylton, RJ Paige and Luke Catarius, among others — that should be a key part of the 2016 Princeton defense.
Powers came to Princeton from Rutgers University, where he spent two seasons working in quality control on defense, specifically with the linebackers. He also spent time working quality control for defense at New Hampshire, as well as a four-year stint as a defensive/special teams coach at Bowdoin College.
Powers played four years of football at Bowdoin, where he won the Phil Soule Award. He was also a two-time captain and all-conference honoree in baseball.
