Box Score
There were times this season when the Princeton men's basketball team was on the short end of scores like 13-1 and 30-12. Saturday night against Brown, the Tigers made sure early that they would be the ones on the good side of those numbers.
Princeton held Brown without a field goal in the first 11:41, forced eight Brown turnovers in that time, took a double-digit lead 10 minutes into the game and made 10 three-pointers for the second straight night on the way to a 52-37 win over the Bears and a sweep of an Ivy League weekend at Jadwin Gym.
By the time Brown's Mark McDonald scored underneath with 8:19 left in the first half, Princeton (5-12, 3-1 Ivy) had already gotten its lead to double digits. A 7-2 spurt in the final 3:17 of the half, which ended with Justin Conway's layup at the buzzer, gave the Tigers an insurmountable 30-12 halftime lead.
Princeton, which defeated Brown (6-13, 2-4 Ivy) for the 54th time in 56 games all-time in Princeton, led by as many as 24 points in the second half.
The Tigers have now won back-to-back games for the first time this season, and Princeton's 3-1 Ivy record leaves the Tigers one game behind Penn in second place in the early Ivy League standings.
"Our defense was excellent tonight," said Princeton coach Joe Scott, whose team allowed Brown just 26% shooting from the field and a 1-for-12 performance from three-point range. "We were active early in the game to get steals, and we did a good job of not letting them do what they wanted to do."
The Tigers also got an outstanding game from Noah Savage, who made six of his eight three-point shots, including his final five, and scored a career-high 23 points. Princeton made 10 of its 25 shots from three-point range on the night after making 10 of 20 in a win over Yale Friday night. "I think we are running our offense better and getting back to basics both offensively and defensively," said Savage. "We wanted to show that we would be tough at home and playing here will be difficult for our opponents."
Damon Huffman led Brown with 14 points, but the Bears did most of their damage offensively from the free-throw line. Brown was 18 for 21 from the foul line but just nine for 35 from the field. The Bears had just two assists and committed 15 turnovers.
Princeton led 13-1 after a Conway layup with 8:52 left in the first half before Brown scored a field goal. The Tigers' largest second-half lead came with 12 minutes left, when Savage's three-pointer gave Princeton a 43-19 advantage.
The Tigers had assists on 12 of their 18 baskets and committed just seven turnovers. Princeton improved to 4-0 this season when scoring 51 points or more.
NOTES * The 37 points allowed by Princeton were its fewest allowed since giving up 33 to Haverford last season.
* Scott Greenman made three of his five three-point shots on the night. Greenman has now made 11 of his last 17 three-pointers in the last three games.
* Freshman Jason Briggs and sophomore Zach Woolridge each saw their first career minutes in the final moments of the win.
