A winning record and a season sweep of Penn were among the honors for Princeton Tuesday night at The Palestra as the Tigers closed the regular season with a 73-52 win over Penn. The 21-point margin of victory was Princeton's largest-ever at Penn, surpassing 17-point wins in 1939 and 1976. Tuesday's win was the largest Princeton margin of victory in the series at any site since the 1976 home game, when the Tigers beat the Quakers by 24, two short of the largest all-time margin of victory for Princeton in the series, 26, set in 1968. The Tigers overcame early turnover woes and Penn scoring the game's first eight points, catching the Quakers at 15-15 at the midpoint of the half. Following a Matt Howard dunk that pulled Penn within two at 29-27 with less than three minutes before the half, Princeton scored seven straight points on the way to a 37-31 halftime lead. Princeton continued the run after the break, going on a 9-0 run to start the half and building a 15-point lead at 46-31 while keeping Penn off the board for the half's first 3:15. Penn started 0 of 11 from the field in the second half before a Darien Nelson-Henry bucket 11:30 into the half broke the drought. By that time, Princeton was up 57-33 with the Nelson-Henry bucket, and Penn was never closer than 20 after that point while the Tigers were up as many as 27 points in the win. |
