PRINCETON, N.J. (10/26/16) - The Tigers begin their quest to retain the Ivy League crown and aim for the ECAC title this weekend when the women's hockey team begins league play at Brown and Yale. Brown hosts Princeton on Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m., while Yale hosts Priceton on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
The Tigers swept Hockey East opponent Providence 4-2 and 7-3 on the road to open the 2016-17 campaign last weekend. Senior Molly Contini, the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week, had a five-point week with three goals and two assists. Junior Kiersten Falck collected four assists, while sophomore Karlie Lund scored twice and had one assist. Nearly every player made the scoresheet as six other players had two points, while five others had a single point. Junior Alysia DaSilva went 2-0 in her first season as the starting netminder. She posted a .907 save percentage and a 2.50 goals against average. Princeton was 3 for 16 on the power play and 7 for 9 on the penalty kill.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown opened the season last weekend with a sweep of Sacred Heart at home, 6-3 and 7-0. Freshman Alley Rempe led the Bears in scoring with six points on two goals and four assists, while junior Sam Donovon scored four times and sophomore Bridget Carey had three goals. Donovan finished second on the team in scoring last year with 14 points, while Maddie Woo had a team-best 15. Woo had three assists last weekend. The Bears tried out all three goaltenders last weekend with senior Monica Elvin seeing 53 minutes of action and stopping 18 of 21 shots. Junior Julianna Landry saved all nine shots she saw in 40 minutes while freshman Calla Isaac made eight saves on eight shots in 26 minutes of play. The Bears were 4 for 12 on the power play and 11 for 12 on the penalty kill. The squad finished the 2015-16 season 3-23-3 overall.
THE PRINCETON/BROWN SERIES
Princeton owns a 42-29-2 record in the all-time series with Brown that dates back to the 1979-80 season. The Tigers have won the last 12 meetings with scores of 3-0 and 6-1 last year.
Yale swept RIT in a pair of home games to start the season, 4-1 and 8-2. Seniors Taylor Marchin and Krista Yip-Chuck both had five-point weekends with two goals and three assists. Juniors Kara Drexler and Eden Murray had four assists apiece. Senior Phoebe Staenz scored twice and had one assist. Senior Hannah Mandl posted a .917 save percentage and a 1.50 goals against average, stopping 36 of 39 shots on goal. The Bulldogs were 3 for 11 on the power play and 8 for 10 on the penalty kill. Yale is coming off of a 10-17-2 season.
THE PRINCETON/YALE SERIES
The Tigers lead the all-time series 60-14-2 since the teams first met in 1979. Princeton swept the season last season, winning 4-3 in New Haven and 5-1 at home. That follows three consecutive seasons of the teams splitting the series.
