PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 14 Princeton Tigers (9-6, 5-0 Ivy) welcome the Cornell Big Red (8-5, 2-3 Ivy) to Bedford Field for the regular season home finale this Saturday at 12 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Ivy League Network.
Head coach Carla Tagliente's team will honor its fifth seniors, Danielle Duseau, Rachel Park, Lexi Quirk, Sarah Brennan and Ryan McCarthy before the contest as well. The Class of 2018 has won 40 games in their four seasons including a 23-3 mark in the Ivy League. The seniors won two Ivy crowns and reached the Final Four last season.
The Tigers can clinch a share of the Ivy title with a victory over Cornell. If Harvard would lose to Dartmouth on Saturday (1 p.m.), Princeton would win the outright Ivy title.
What's Going On?
- The No. 14 Princeton Tigers shut down a high-powered Harvard offense in a 3-0 victory over the No. 15 Crimson at Berylson Field last Saturday.
- With the clock ticking under nine minutes to go in the first half, Princeton got on the scoreboard off a corner. Clara Roth inserted to MaryKate Neff, who riffled an attempt on the cage. Maddie Bacskai managed to deflect it in, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
- The Tigers got insurance on another corner with 16 minutes left in the game. After a corner shot, Emma Street secured the rebound and put in the back of the cage.
- Julianna Tornetta put the game away as she beat the goalie to a rebound and touched it in for Princeton's third goal.
- Grace Baylis put the exclamation point on the impressive defensive performance with her fourth and final save with three minutes remaining. She earned her ninth career shutout in the win.
- Princeton has not allowed a goal over the last 206 minutes and 43 seconds of game action, earning consecutive shutouts during that span.
- For her performance against Harvard, Julianna Tornetta was selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
- The Tigers lead the all-time series, 30-6-3.
- Prior to last season's victory over the Tigers, the Big Red last defeated Princeton during the 2007 season.
- Before Cornell's win in 2007, Princeton went 16 consecutive matches without a loss.
- Cornell's last two-game winning streak vs. Princeton came in the 1983-84 seasons.
- Cornell's Krysten Mayers' third goal of the contest in the second overtime gave the Big Red a 3-2 victory over No. 13 Princeton.
- Trailing by two, Sophia Tornetta and Jane Donio-Enscoe scored before the half to tie the game at 2-all.
- In the first overtime, each team had two penalty corners and two shots, but couldn't find the golden goal. In the second overtime session, Mayers completed her hat trick as she tipped the ball over Grace Baylis on a shot attempt from Katy Weeks.
- The Big Red began the season with four straight victories over Ohio, Bucknell, Vermont and Maine.
- Two of the Big Red's Ivy League losses have been by one goal (Harvard, Columbia).
- Krysten Mayers' leads the Big Red with 13 points (five goals, two assists) this season. Sam McIlwrick is right behind her with 12 points.
