Late Third-Period Goals Lead Princeton Past Quinnipiac, 3-0

PRINCETON, N.J – The Princeton women's hockey team (4-8-3, 4-6-1 ECAC) used a late third-period rally to defeat Quinnipiac (10-8-2, 6-5-0 ECAC), 3-0 on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink.

With a scoreless tie heading into the third period, junior Keiko DeClerck sparked a three-goal third period. As the Tigers were on the counterattack, senior Kiersten Falck led DeClerck to the left wing and watched as DeClerck finished underneath the cross bar to break the tie with 12:22 left in the game.

Sophomore defender Claire Thompson took care of business in the final minutes of the game. During the Tigers final power-play opportunity, Thompson received a pass at the blue line from teammate Amanda Harris and had her shot blocked, but sent sky high towards the net and over goaltender Abbie Ives to double the lead, 2-0 with 2:09 left.

As time was winding down, Falck won a faceoff down at the Tigers end and passed the puck to defender Stephanie Sucharda, who fed Thompson near their own goal-line. Thompson, who saw the empty net, sent her shot all the way across ice and finished for the final insurance goal, 3-0.

Thompson raised her season goal total to four, while DeClerck cashed in her fifth of the season. Falck and Sucharda each had a multi-assist night at three and two, respectively, while Harris finished with one.

Sophomore netminder Stephanie Neatby recorded her second shutout of the season, tallying 18 saves to improve her season record to 3-6-3 overall. Opposing goaltender Ives also finished the game with 18 saves on 20 chances.

Princeton held advantages over Quinnipiac in shots, 21-18 and faceoffs, 38-of-56. The Tigers improved in the all-time series over the Bobcats, 15-14-4 and extended their winning streak to three over Quinnipiac.

Princeton will look for the weekend-series sweep against Quinnipiac on Saturday at TD Bank Center. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m with game coverage on ESPN3.
