Second-Ranked Penn Tops No. 4 Princeton To Open Second Half Of Women's Squash Season
February 01, 2017 | Women's Squash
The second-ranked Penn Quakers remained one match behind Harvard in the Ivy League chase Wednesday night, as they used a strong opening shift to claim an 8-1 victory over fourth-ranked Princeton at the Jadwin Squash Courts.
The Tigers, playing their first match since the January finals break, could not find any early rhythm against the Quakers, who won 12 of the 14 individual games in the opening shift to open a 4-0 lead. Princeton began to find its footing on several courts in the second shift, including an impressive showing from freshman Madison Soukup, who hit with length and consistency in a 11-8, 11-3, 9-11, 11-6 win over Lindsay Stanley at the No. 9 spot.
Each Princeton players forced at least a fourth game from the fifth to eighth positions, but none managed to win the opener. That kept momentum on the side of the Quakers, who won several tight fourth games (12-10 at 7, 11-8 at 8) to close their individual wins.
The Tigers will head on the road this weekend to continue their Ivy League season, including a Saturday showdown at No. 6 Yale.
