Princeton Rallies For Thrilling Win Over Columbia, Takes Season Series For First Time Since 2011
April 22, 2018 | Baseball
The win gave the Tigers a series victory over the Lions for the first time since 2011. Princeton also moves into third place in the Ivy League behind Yale (11-4) and Columbia (9-6).
Five different Tigers had multi-hit games in the contest, highlighted by Max West and David Harding's three hits each. Chris Davis scored three times at the top of the order.
Columbia's Chandler Bengtson's RBI double in the bottom of the first inning opened the scoring. The next hitter, Joe Engel, gave the home squad its second tally on a run-scoring single.
West had two-out double in the second frame, but was left stranded. In the third, Princeton put together three straight singles including a hit from Jesper Horsted that allowed Davis to touch home. The Tigers couldn't add on as a strikeout and flyout ended the threat. A bases loaded walk and sacrifice fly in the home half of the third stanza gave Columbia 4-1 advantage. Princeton put two runners on with one out in the fourth and sixth innings, but couldn't get another run home.
A Davis single led off the seventh before two flyouts followed. Nolan singled through the right side, leading to a pitching change. Flynn got the Tigers within two on an RBI knock. After Ramzi Haddad was hit by a pitch, West tied the game on this hit …

Julian Bury hit one in the hole between third base and shortstop that allowed another run to score, but Jake Boone, who stopped the ball from getting away, threw behind the runner at third, who was off the bag and tagged out. After an intentional walk, Liam McGill lofted a pop up into short right field and Harding, well, made the final out interesting …
Each team had 15 hits. Bengtson led the Lions with three hits. The home squad left 15 runners on base. Princeton gets right back at it on Tuesday as the Harvard Crimson (16-17, 6-6 Ivy) come to Clarke Field. The doubleheader gets started at 11:30 a.m.VICTORY: NEVER A DOUBT!
