No. 5 Princeton Plays to 4-4 Draw at No. 9 Colgate

No. 5 Princeton extended its unbeaten streak to 18 games after playing to a 4-4 tie at No. 9 Colgate on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers remain in first place in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 15 point lead over second-place Cornell.
The Tigers held a two-goal lead before the Raiders scored twice in a span of 2:31 in the third period to draw even with at 3-3.
It appeared freshman Maggie Connors had the game-winning goal scoring with 1:02 left in the game but Colgate (12-6-4, 6-2-2) tied it with 9.4 seconds left on a Jessie Eldridge score.
Junior defender Claire Thompson quickly got Princeton (13-2-5, 11-0-3) on the board just 2:13 into the game when she came down the right boards and snuck the puck past Julia Vandyk. The pass was outlet to Thompson from starting netminder Stephanie Neatby, to pick up her second career point.
The Raiders converted on their first power-play opportunity, scoring on their second shot on goal of the game with Tanner Gates getting credit for the tally to end the first 1-1.
It took Princeton's second-ranked power-play unit just 28 seconds to convert on its first chance of the game with Connors scoring her 13th goal of the season. She shoveled in a drive from Thompson with freshman Sarah Fillier earning the secondary assist.

Junior Carly Bullock expanded the lead to 3-1 at with 28 seconds left in the second frame, when Fillier intercepted a pass and fed Bullock for the breakaway bid.

Malia Schneider and Shae Labbe evened the game with goals at 11:21 and 13:52 for the Raiders.

Connors ripped a shot over the shoulder of Vandyk after Sylvie Wallin banked the puck off the glass and down to a battle that Stephanie Sucharda won and dishing off to Connors on her way to the goal for the go-ahead.
After locking up the puck in the neutral zone, Colgate was able to poke it free with 14 seconds left and Eldridge skated it and got it by Neatby with 9.4 seconds left to force overtime.
Shots were even 2-2 in the overtime session but both netminders held strong. Neatby finished with 17 saves and Vandyk made 33 stops as Princeton outshot Colgate 37-21.
Princeton was 1 for 3 on the power play and Colgate was 1 for 4.
The Tigers take a break for final exams and semester break and return to Hobey Baker Rink facing Penn State on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
