No. 6 Princeton Beats Yale to Open ECAC Weekend
January 31, 2020 | Women's Ice Hockey
Getting two key points and a win against a fellow team battling for home ice in the first round of the ECAC Hockey League playoffs, the sixth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team got two goals from Carly Bullock to beat Yale 2-1 Friday night in New Haven.
Princeton ran its unbeaten streak to six games while also halting Yale's six-game winning run.
Princeton stayed tied with Harvard for second in the ECAC with 23 points, four points back of leader Cornell and two points in front of fourth-place Clarkson for the final first-round home-ice spot. Yale is one point back of Clarkson, with 20.
Princeton will wrap the weekend at Brown for a 3 p.m. game Saturday.
With seven-plus minutes to go in the first period, Sarah Fillier took control of a loose puck near the goal line in Princeton's attacking zone, skated it out near the blue line and sent a pass forward to Bullock near the crease. Bullock shifted the puck across the crease and found open net to put the Tigers in front.
In the final minute of the second period, Claire Thompson sent a pass forward for a trio of Tigers including Maggie Connors, Filler and Bullock headed toward the net. Connors, along the left wing, sent a pass back for Fillier, who again found Bullock at the crease for a redirect and a 2-0 lead.
Yale halved the lead near the midway point of the third period with an Emma Seitz goal, but the Tigers, with Stephanie Neatby making 19 saves, allowed Yale no closer in securing the win.
Bullock's two-goal game gave her 81 for her career, remaining in seventh place on Princeton's all-time list, and classmate Neatby moved up to 1,765 career saves, still standing sixth in Princeton history.
