HANOVER, N.H. – Led by three double-digit scorers, the Princeton University men's basketball outlasted Dartmouth College 65-62 Saturday night inside Leede Arena.
Sophomore Jaelin Llewellyn led the way for Princeton, finishing a team-high 21 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc and a game-high four assists. Llewellyn's five made three-pointers were also a career-high. Senior Richmond Aririguzoh added 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting and five rebounds while sophomore Drew Friberg added 12 points for the Tigers.
Sophomore Ethan Wright started things off with a fast-break layup just three seconds after tip-off and Llewellyn followed with a layup of his own with 19:12 on the clock to give the Tigers an early 4-0 advantage.
Friberg would then help the Tigers extend their lead to 17-9 with 13:22 on the clock after a driving layup and a long three-pointer.
Princeton would use a 10-run sparked by an Aririguzoh layup with 10:11 on the clock that saw it surge ahead 31-14 on a Friberg triple with 7:23 left in the half. Princeton rode the momentum and took a 33-16 advantage into halftime.
Llewellyn opened the second half with back-to-back three-pointers with 19:28 and 18:20 on the clock, giving Princeton a 39-26 lead. He would then bring his total to 13 points with a driving layup with 12:58 on the clock, giving Princeton a 45-31 advantage.
The Big Green attempted to mount a comeback, but a hanging layup from the middle of the lane by senior Jose Morales with 11:21 left to play helped Princeton stay ahead, 47-35.
Llewellyn stayed hot, draining his fourth three-pointer with 9:05 remaining that gave Princeton a 50-41 advantage but the Big Green managed to trim the lead, making it a 53-50 contest with 5:38 left to play. A Dartmouth free throw cut it to one point at 53-52 with 5:10 on the clock, but another Llewellyn three-pointer gave the Tigers a 56-52 advantage with 4:45 remaining.
With 1:31 on the clock the Big Green trailed by only one point at 61-60, but a pair of Aririguzoh extended Princeton's lead to 63-60. Dartmouth would score one more basket, but Princeton held on for the 65-62 triumph after a pair of late Llewellyn free throws.
