October 29, 2021 | Field Hockey
The Princeton field hockey team has two regular season games remaining. The Tigers need a pair of wins and some help to get a piece of the Ivy League championship.

Five Storylines
Â
The Ivy race
Princeton trails Harvard by one game with two to play in the regular season. The Crimson enter the weekend at 5-0 in the league, followed by Princeton at 4-1. For Princeton to earn a share of the league championship, it needs either two wins and a Harvard loss or one win and two Harvard losses. Â
Â
To earn the automatic NCAA tournament bid, Princeton needs two wins and two Harvard losses.
Â
Cornell and Penn are both 3-2 in the league and still mathematically alive for the championship. A Harvard win over Cornell Saturday would eliminate both of them.
Â
Working overtime
Princeton has played 15 games, and a remarkable seven of them have gone to overtime. Princeton enters the game against Brown having played four straight overtime games. Both of those are program records.
Â
Isla Okkinga has played five games in goal for Princeton. All five have gone to overtime (the last four plus the UConn game earlier in the season).
Â
Series history
Princeton and Brown meet for the 44th time in a series that Princeton leads 34-8-1. Princeton has also won 20 straight times against Brown.
Â
Princeton defeated Brown 6-0 two years ago in the most recent meeting between the two. Ali McCarthy had two goals in the game (Princeton's first two), and Sammy Popper had two assists. Hannah Davey had a goal as well.
Â
Scoring updates
For the second time in her career, Sammy Popper has scored one goal in three straight games after having goals against Penn State (the winner in overtime), Harvard and Monmouth. Popper is second on the team in goals with eight and is tied with Ali McCarthy for second on the team in points with 19.
Â
McCarthy had no goals and two assists for the first six games of the season. She has six goals and five assists in the nine games since.
Â
Ophelie Bemelmans has no goals but nine assists. Only one player in Division I has more assists without having scored a goal.
Â
Princeton leads the Ivy league and ranks 13th in Division I in scoring offense at 2.783 goals per game.
Â
Strength of schedule
Princeton has seven losses, of which five are against teams in the top 11 of RPI, including overtime losses to No. 4 Maryland and No. 6 Louisville.
Â
Princeton also has three wins over top 20 schools – No. 5 Penn State, No. 19 Delaware and No. 20 UConn.
