Connors Scores, McQuigge Stops as Tigers Take Opener at Yale
October 29, 2021 | Women's Ice Hockey
Maggie Connors had a goal each in the second and third period and Rachel McQuigge stopped all 31 shots sent her way as the Princeton women's hockey team opened the season with a 2-0 win at Yale on Friday night.
The shutout was the sixth of the senior McQuigge's career to go with three during her junior season of 2019-20 and two as a sophomore.Â
Connors opened the scoring with three-plus minutes to go in the second period. Mia Coene got a hand on a clear attempt by Yale out of its defensive zone, and Solveig Neunzert collected the loose puck, firing it to a ready Connors on the doorstep of the goal.
Â
It stayed 1-0 until less than seven minutes were left in the game. Stef Wallace took control of a puck deep in Princeton's end and sent it forward for Sarah Paul, who flipped it ahead to the boards behind Yale's goal. Connors picked up the loose puck there, curled around the net and sent it in to double Princeton's lead.
Â
The goals moved the junior Connors to an even 50 for her career, raising her career points total to 92. It was Connors' 12th career multi-goal game. Coene's and Paul's assists came in the rookies' career debut.
Princeton's win was its seventh straight against Yale, and the Tigers will look for the weekend sweep Saturday at Brown in a 3 p.m. start.
