Women's Ice Hockey Nipped By Quinnipiac, 3-1
November 12, 2021 | Women's Ice Hockey
A tight defensive battle through two periods turned into a bit of offensive explosion in the third, but it was No. 8 Quinnipiac who found the back of the net enough to secure a 3-1 win over the Tigers at Hobey Baker Rink.
Annie Kuehl had Princeton's goal, breaking a scoreless tie 5:32 into the third period. She found a loose puck in front after a Kate Monihan shot from the point was saved and Grace Kuipers -- while falling to the ice -- swatted a pass over to Kuehl who one-timed home the opening goal.
Princeton's lead lasted all of 1:25 before the Bobcats tied it via a Nina Steigauf goal. She tapped in a loose puck on the goal line after the Tigers could not clear the crease area to square the game at 1-1.
Just past the midway point of the third period, Quinnipiac took the lead off a controversial goal. Sophie Urban was credited with the goal after firing home a long-range wrister just inside the Princeton blueline. The play was reviewed for offsides, but the call on the ice was not overturned and the Bobcats had a lead they would not relinquish.
Jess Schryver added an insurance goal for Quinnipiac with 6:33 remaining via a top-corner shot.
The two teams meet again on Saturday iun Hamden. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
