Tigers Close 2021 With Win at Syracuse
December 11, 2021 | Women's Ice Hockey
In the team's final game before a 23-day break for final exams and the holiday season, the Princeton women's hockey team closed a weekend series at Syracuse with a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon.
Princeton opened the scoring when Maggie Connors worked a shot around netminder Arielle DeSmet and inside the right post for a 1-0 lead with 11-plus minutes to go in the opening period.
Kate Monihan doubled the lead when she sent the puck back in after a scramble in front of the net that included Mia Coene and Ellie Marcovsky after a Grace Kuipers shot with six-plus minutes to go in the second.
Connors' goal was her team-best ninth of the season, and Monihan's was her first of the year.
Syracuse got a goal back less than two minutes later by Madison Primeau, but Rachel McQuigge stopped 35 of 36 Syracuse shots on goal to seal the win, including all 15 of the home team's third-period shots on goal.
After the break, Princeton will host Long Island on Jan. 3 before returning to ECAC Hockey play on Jan. 7 at home against Clarkson.
