Cormier Scores Twice as Princeton Draws Cornell
January 28, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
Dominique Cormier had both Princeton goals in a game that saw every goal scored on a power play as Princeton played Cornell to a 2-2 draw on Friday night at Baker Rink.
Cormier, a rookie whose previous goal entering the night came at Brown on Oct. 30, gave Princeton a 1-0 lead with 11:40 to go in the opening period when she fired a Cornell clearing attempt back toward the net on the power play and it found its way through for a goal.
Princeton held the lead for 10 minutes until Cornell's Izzy Daniel capitalized on the player-advantage, sending one through the slot for a tie with less than two minutes to go in the first period.
The teams stayed tied through the second period, and Cornell went ahead 2-1 with six minutes to go in the game when Kaitlin Jockims redirected a Gillis Frechette pass to the front of the net for a goal and the lead.
Already on the power play and closing in on two minutes to go in the third, Princeton pulled netminder Rachel McQuigge for the extra attacker, and the move capitalized when Cormier sent a blast from near the faceoff dot to the left of Cornell goalie Lindsay Browning and in, tying the game at 2-2 with 1:56 to go.
Princeton will host No. 9 Colgate on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Baker Rink.
