
Men's Basketball Falls to Iona, 70-64

UNION, N.J. – Despite leading at halftime, the Princeton University men's basketball team fell just short, 70-64, to Iona Tuesday night inside Harwood Arena in a contest played in support of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coaches vs. Cancer initiative.
Senior Keeshawn Kellman led the team in scoring with 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting and pulled down five rebounds, and senior Tosan Evbuomwan added 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting, seven assists that included the 200th of his career, and four rebounds. Sophomore Blake Peters also added 11 points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from beyond the card, while junior Matt Allocco had a game and career-high eight assists.
Kellman opened the game with back-to-back baskets, including a powerful two-handed slam with 19:01 on the clock to give Princeton a 4-0 lead. The game descended into a back-and-forth battle, with the score tied 8-8 at the first media timeout with 15:11 left in the half.
A layup followed by a three-pointer by freshman Deven Austin saw the Tigers take a 13-8 lead with at 14:31, but the Gaels battled back with a 6-0 run take a 14-13 lead with 10:30 on the clock. With help from a pair of sophomore Blake Peters three-pointers, the Tigers took a 20-18 advantage at 6:34
Evbuomwan drove right and threw down the powerful two-hand slam for a three-point play with 4:57 left in the half to give Princeton a 25-22 lead, and the Tigers would take a 35-22 advantage into the half.
Princeton opened the second half with a 6-0 run, that included a powerful two-handed fastbreak dunk by Pierce, to take a 41-33 lead over Iona with 16:27 on the clock. A three-point play by Evbuomwan then extended the Tigers' lead to 44-36, with 15:47 left to play.
A 10-0 run by the Gaels tied the score at 48-48 with 10:07 remaining, and the game became a back-and-forth battle from there. A layup by Evbuomwan made it a 55-54 game in Iona's favor with 6:00 on the clock.
Iona held a 63-58 lead with 1:31 remaining, but an Allocco layup followed by a long three-pointer by senior Ryan Langborg at 1:09 tied the score at 63-63. Despite the late stalemate, it was the Iona who would hold on the for the 70-64 triumph.
