Promotions: Friday is Kids Club Day, and Kids Club members can claim four tickets, which must be done in advance of the game. The first 100 fans will receive Kids Club colored pencils. Princeton will recognize its senior class, Sharon Frankel, Shannon Griffin, Rachel McQuigge and Sarah Verbeek, following Friday's game. Saturday, the first 250 Princeton University students will receive Black Out Baker t-shirts.Â
Standings: With all the makeup games now complete, ECAC Hockey's 12 teams enter the weekend on even footing with 20 games played and two to play this weekend. Princeton stands eighth, assured of an ECAC Hockey tournament playoff berth, and could rise to seventh depending on results in Baker and around the league. Yale, Harvard, Quinnipiac, Clarkson and Colgate are all within striking distance of first or second place, leaving much to be determined for Princeton's quarterfinal opponent and destination. Princeton has made the quarters every year since 2014, aside from 2021 when Princeton was among the eight league teams not to compete due to the pandemic.
National rankings: Entering the week, Princeton ranked No. 1 in the nation in team faceoff winning percentage (.589). Sharon Frankel was tops in the nation with 532 faceoff wins. Rachel McQuigge was eighth in the nation with a .941 save percentage and Maggie Connors had a ninth-best five power-play goals on the season.
The series with Brown and Yale: Princeton swept the season-opening weekend at Yale (2-0) and Brown (3-2) back in October in New England. Princeton leads the all-time series with Brown 53-29-2 overall and 25-13 in Baker, having won the last 21 overall and the last 10 in Baker since the Bears' last win in the series in 2010, which came at Baker. Princeton leads the all-time series with Yale 67-15-3 overall and 34-9 in Princeton, having won the last seven overall and last three in Baker since the Bulldogs' last win in the series in 2017, which came at Baker.
Coaching connections: Princeton coach Cara Morey is a Brown alum, and Brown coach Melanie Ruzzi was an assistant coach with the Tigers in 2019-20 when the team won the ECAC Hockey tournament title for the first time in program history.
Century club: Junior Maggie Connors, now with 108 career points, earned her 100th on Dec. 4 at Providence. Former teammate Carly Bullock '20 was the last Tiger to reach 100, finishing her career with 159 points.
An historic season: In 2019-20, Princeton set program records for wins (26), points (305) and assists (183), and had the second-most goals in a season, at 122, behind only the 135 scored in the 1983-84 season.
Firsts: Six Tigers have scored their first goals with the program this season in freshmen Sarah Paul, Mia Coene, Grace Kuipers, Dominique Cormier and Ellie Marcovsky and sophomore Daniella Calabrese. The first-timers represent six of Princeton's 14 goal scorers so far on the season.
Program record?: Senior Rachel McQuigge has a career save percentage of .934, just ahead of former teammate Stephanie Neatby '20 for the program record. She is on pace to finish as one of five regular starters in program history to have a career GAA below 2.00, now at 1.77, and she is seventh in program history in career saves at 1,333. Rachel Weber '12 is sixth at 1,787.
Olympians!:Â Princeton is without Sarah Fillier this season as she aims to help Canada win Olympic gold. Fillier, who would return as a junior in 2022-23, is in Beijing with former Tiger teammate Claire Thompson '20. The four-time gold-winning Canadians are looking for their first gold since 2014. Netminder Kim Newell '16 competed with China and is Princeton's all-time wins (52) and saves (3,096) leader. She started and played three of China's four games with a record of 1-1-1.
