Tigers Draw Brown on Senior Night
February 18, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
Second-period goals from Solveig Neunzert and Mia Coene had second-period goals in between goals for Brown in the first and third periods, and that's where it ended on Friday night at Baker Rink as the Princeton women's hockey team drew Brown, 2-2.
Saturday's 3 p.m. game against Yale will be the home finale for the season as Princeton awaits its ECAC Hockey tournament quarterfinal-round opponent and destination. Princeton is in the eighth spot for the tournament with Harvard, Yale and Quinnipiac all still in the running for the top spot and the chance to host Princeton for the best-of-three series.
Saturday's game can be seen on ESPN+ (video internationally is available here) with live stats here. Tickets to the game are available here.
Brown opened the scoring just 20 seconds in, with Shay Maloney threading one through, and the 1-0 Brown lead is where it stayed into the second period.
Just more than two minutes into the second period and with Princeton in its attacking zone, Neunzert took a cross-ice pass from Stef Wallace and blasted it home from beyond the faceoff circle to Brown netminder Kaley Doyle's left to tie the game.
Less than five minutes later, Mia Coene untied the game, pouncing on a rebound from a Mariah Keopple shot to put Princeton ahead 2-1.
Brown got the tying goal from Anna Hurd eight minutes into the third period, and despite Princeton outshooting Brown 56-44 overall and 23-20 on goal, it stayed 2-2.
Princeton recognized its four-member senior class following the game, with Sharon Frankel, Shannon Griffin, Rachel McQuigge and Sarah Verbeek being honored.
