Fillier Scores Early, but No. 9 Cornell Rallies for Win over Princeton
January 13, 2023 | Women's Ice Hockey
Sarah Fillier scored 19 seconds into Friday night's visit to No. 9-ranked Cornell, but the Big Red answered quickly on the way to a 4-1 win over the Princeton women's hockey team in Ithaca to open an ECAC Hockey weekend.
Fillier picked up a loose puck in Cornell's attacking zone and took it the rest of the way, splitting a pair of Cornell defenders after she crossed into Princeton's attacking zone and threading a shot through Cornell netminder Deanna Fraser for an early lead.
The goal was Fillier's team-best 11th of the season and lifted her to 22 points, also a team-best total.
Cornell got goals from Kaitlin Jockims and Gillis Frechette before six minutes were gone in the opening period, leading 2-1 at the first ice cut. Adding one in each of the final two periods, from Gabbie Rud and Avi Adam, Cornell pushed the final to 4-1.
Princeton outshot Cornell overall 42-37 while the Big Red had a 25-22 edge in shots on goal.
Princeton will continue the weekend at No. 5-ranked Colgate Saturday at 3 p.m.
