Pierce's Career Night Powers Men's Basketball Past Hofstra, 74-67

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Powered by a career-night from sophomore Caden Pierce, the Princeton University men's basketball team outlasted Hofstra, 74-67, Friday night inside the Mack Exhibition Center.
Pierce's game and career-high 26 points came on 9-for-18 shooting, and his 15 rebounds marked his second-straight contest with 15 boards. In his past four games, Pierce has now recorded at least 15 rebounds in three of them. In addition, he also had two assists, two steals and one block.
Junior Blake Peters added 15 points and made three three-pointers for the fourth time in the past five games. Sophomore Xaivian Lee finished with 15 points 5-for-8 shooting from the field and 3-for-5 shooting from three and senior Matt Allocco added 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
While the Pride scored the first two baskets of the contest, the Tigers used a7-0 run featuring four Pierce points and a Peters three-pointer to take a 7-4 lead with 18:05 on the clock. The game descended into a defensive battle as Hofstra battled back to take a seven-point lead, 16-9, with 10:39 remaining in the half.
A long pull-up three-pointer by Allocco at 10:00 ignited a 13-0 run that saw the Tigers surge ahead, 22-16, following a Pierce three-pointer with 7:02 on the clock. While the Pride knotted the score at 26-26 with 2:31 left in the half, Pierce, drained a pair of free throws at 1:17 to give the Tigers a 30-29 advantage heading into halftime. Additionally, Pierce had already recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Lee completed a four-point play with 18:20 remaining, putting the Tigers up 34-31. The two teams traded baskets back-and-forth until a three-pointer by sophomore Jack Scott sparked an 8-0 run that put Princeton in front, 53-41 with 10:49 on the clock after a Pierce three-pointer.
A step-back three by Lee with 6:45 remaining kept Princeton's lead in double digits, 56-46, but the Pride brought it back within six, 62-56, at 3:35. Another Peters three-pointer extended Princeton's lead back out to nine at 65-56 with 3:04 left to play, then Peters and Allocco combined to go 6-for-6 from the free throw line down the stretch as the Tigers held on for the 75-67 victory.

You won't find many more teams that have had a better opening week than the Princeton Tigers. After beating Rutgers on a neutral floor, Princeton goes to Hofstra and beats the Pride 74-67.
