Monday Closes Outstanding Tiger Career With Third-Place Finish at NCAAs
March 18, 2023 | Wrestling
Quincy Monday closed out one of the most outstanding careers in program history with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships on Saturday afternoon in Tulsa, Okla., the city where he was born.
Already one of three three-time All-Americans in program history along with former teammate Matthew Kolodzik '21 and current teammate and classmate Patrick Glory, Monday is in a group of four in program history with two top-three NCAA finishes. Only Bradley Glass '53 (first 1951, third 1952), John Orr '85 (second 1984, second 1985), Glory (second 2022, first or second 2023) and now Monday (second 2022, third 2023) are in that group.
Monday, seeded fifth at 165 pounds, won his way into the third-place match with a 9-7 win over Wisconsin's third-seeded Dean Hamiti, whom Monday defeated for the second time this season, along with the Midlands final in December. The third-place match saw Monday defeat Michigan's 11th-seeded Cameron Amine, 3-2.
Brackets are available here.
Glory will wrestle for the 125-pound title tonight at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT against fourth-seeded Matt Ramos of Purdue. The session will be televised on ESPN as well as streamed on ESPN+. Competition will start at 157 pounds, making Glory's the seventh match up.

Cons SF: (5) Quincy Monday (Princeton) wins by decision over (3) Dean Hamiti (Wisconsin), 9-7
Monday had a takedown to open the scoring late in the first and led 2-1 after a period once Hamiti got a point back on an escape out of that takedown. Monday had a four-point near-fall early in the third to go up 6-1, and after a Hamiti reversal out of that near-fall, Monday led 6-3 entering the third. The final period saw Monday intersperse escapes around two Hamiti takedowns for the 9-7 win.
3rd: (5) Quincy Monday (Princeton) wins by decision over (11) Cameron Amine (Michigan), 3-2
Amine started the scoring with an escape off the second-period start, and Monday tied it up with an escape to start the third. Monday soon followed with a takedown, and though Amine got a point back with an escape out of that takedown, the one-point advantage ended up being the difference.
