No. 12 Princeton Draws Brown to Open ECAC Hockey Weekend
January 26, 2024 | Women's Ice Hockey
Emerson O'Leary gave Princeton the lead with a first-period rebound goal, but Brown found the equalizer on a second-period major penalty and that's where it ended on Friday night in Providence in a 1-1 tie.
Princeton outshot Brown 70-33 overall and 44-18 on goal, but Bears netminder Kaley Doyle stopped 43 shots on the night and each of Princeton's last 32 shots on goal after O'Leary's go-ahead goal came just after the midway point of the first period.
The play that led to the O'Leary goal started in Princeton's defensive zone when Kate Monihan cut off Jade Iginla's path toward goal from the top of the right circle and O'Leary picked up the loose puck along the boards. Sarah Fillier then carried it into the Tigers' attacking zone and sent it to Monihan for a shot from just inside the blue line that Doyle saved but couldn't corral. O'Leary was there for the rebound, Princeton had the lead, and Fillier had her 99th career assist.
Iginla had the tying goal midway through a five-minute penalty and with less than five minutes to go in the second period, and that ended up being the last goal of the night.
Jennifer Olnowich stopped 17 of 18 shots in the draw.
Princeton will head to Yale to complete the ECAC Hockey weekend with a 3 p.m. start on Saturday.
